It depends on a number of factors. Metal usually weighs only 1/3 as much as composite shingles, thus the added weight usually is not significant. Keep in mind you will either want to cover the shingles with felt paper or install furring strips (often 1” x 4” wood boards) on top of the shingles, parallel to the eave and ridge at appropriate intervals; this way the metal panels do not scratch against the composite granules.
Metal conducts heat and cold quickly, reaching the dew point faster than most materials. When the temperature inside versus outside the building exceeds a certain threshold without a thermal block the panels will condensate on the interior of the building.
